This is the intro "song from Power Tools". One of Los Angeles' few bastions for dance music formatted radio (outside of public-supported of course!) The show on KPWR has been on the air since 1992 and has seen everyone roll through its broadcasts. I used to race home to tape it until I figured out how to program the cassette deck to do it for me (big up Aiwa). If I wasn't at the rave, then I could at least get a small dose from Richard Humpty Vission...

Here's a vinyl transfer of Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)(Special Disco Re-mix) by The Jacksons. I'm posting it because I haven't seen it out there before. This was the B1 side to a 12" UK release of "Can You Feel It" on Epic (S EPC 13 9554)

The percussive intro is super awesome for mixing (no more weird piano drop!) and the remixer was riding hard on the synth sweep airhorn sounds. Gives me the disco chills like the whistle in GnFnR's "Paradise City". You just know something's about to pop off.

Here's a little white label action from way back (when I had the red and black lumber jack...). Well, not that far back but a choice record still nonetheless. I got this originally off the wall at DMC Records. It's basically a mash of Arman Van Helden's "You Don't Know Me" with an acapella of Donna Giles' version of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". A great track for when you wanna go left instead of right. Big up Carrie Lucas' "Dance With You" on the original Armand sample. soo nice.

Anyways I'm gonna go ahead and say PROGRESSIVE ALERT, but remain calm people. This one has the super similar melody to Wink's "Higher State" but doesn't get too euro. I'm curious to know what the name of the synth sound used in this is called. Maybe we'll see a resurgence soon? Amen-break-with-the-hoover-sound heads take note!

I'm gonna be djing at the next installment of Society on July 25 in downtown LA at Bordello Bar (ex-Little Pedro's). This is always a fun fashion forward party and is sure to be a blast with myself, Chris Bowen of Shits & Giggles, Kim Ahn from Booby Trap and featuring live performances by homies Little Red Radio, Gangsta Queen, and Cassidy Haley. This is a Hugs and Kisses joint so all proceeds are gonna benefit the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center.

One of my all time favorite late disco/energy era tracks. Funky, moogy, electric, brooding, girl singing on top, synths that sound like medieval wizard arpeggiations. So. Dope. Anyways I was checking up on this track and found that the family of the original composer has a blog that hints at unreleased tracks. I will definitely be waiting for these!
I picked up this record up at JDC Records in Hermosa Beach who put out a lot of energy and hip-hop back in the 80's. South Bay Represent!

Recently I have been playing with Sister Mantos. If I had to describe it I'd call it "live action psychedelic tribal house", but I'm not a genre-ho so you need to judge for yourself. The band tour kicks off on June 20 when we perform at Mustache Mondays here in L.A. From there we set off across the world spreading the good word.
